IFPD Issues Reminders About Door‐to‐Door Solicitors
Idaho Falls, ID – As temperatures begin to increase, so does the number of door‐to‐door solicitors
in Idaho Falls. The Idaho Falls Police Department reminds all residents and solicitors about the
guidelines set forth by city code for door‐to‐door solicitors.
Anyone violating these regulations and guidelines are subject to being cited for a misdemeanor.
As required by city ordinance:
• All solicitors – with the exception of those proselyting or political campaigning – are required to
have a door‐to‐door sales permit within Idaho Falls. The permit is only good for one calendar year
and expires on Dec. 31.
• All permits/badges must be visibly worn by the solicitor when going door‐to‐door.
• Door‐to‐door sales are only allowed between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. No solicitation can occur on
Sunday or any legal holiday.
• Solicitors are not allowed to knock at any door that displays a “no solicitation” sign prominently
posted at or near the primary entrance.
Residents are encouraged to be smart when doing business with any solicitor – whether it’s at the
door or on the phone.
Residents should:
• Prior to opening the door, take a look through the peep hole or window to see who is knocking at
the door. You are not required to open the door to a stranger.
• Only do business with companies you are familiar with or you have properly researched.
• Never permit a stranger into your home if home alone.
• Ask for identification and/or to see their city permit (if one is not visible). If they don’t have a
permit, advise them of the ordinance requiring one.
• Call and report a solicitor to police that refuses to leave, becomes confrontational or is soliciting
without a permit.
