Last night at approximately 10:40pm Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Legends Gas Station at in the intersection of Ammon Rd. and 17th St. to a report of an Armed Robbery. An employee at the gas station reported that a male with a covered face entered the store holding a hatchet and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect fled the store, the employee was not harmed and no other customers were in the store at the time. At the time of the call two Deputies were in the immediate area and one spotted a vehicle leaving the scene south on Ammon Rd. with no headlights on.
As the Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle it fled to a side street and an cul-de-sac where the suspect drove across yards and into the front end of the Deputies patrol car trying to escape. Deputies continued pursuit of the suspect who eventually turned south back onto Ammon Rd. continuing to the Taylor Mountain Rd. where he lost control and crashed on the gravel road. Deputies were able to take the driver into custody and identify him as 24 year old Jacob M. Martin of Ammon. There were no other occupants or subjects with Mr. Martin during this event.
Martin was transported by ambulance from the crash scene to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released to Deputies. Martin was then booked into the Bonneville County Jail for Felony charges of Eluding and Robbery. No other people were injured during the pursuit and along with damage to a patrol car there was minor damage to yard and landscaping at 2 residences in the area of the pursuit.
